The initial death toll was 17, followed by the discovery of 11 more bodies after a search of the prison as authorities regained control. Another prisoner later died of his wounds at a hospital. Two police officersa guard were injured in the violence in the prison in the coastal city of Mazatlan, a spokesman for the public prosecutor?s office told the German Press Agency dpa.
