According to local media reports every year in Russian rivers discharge more than 17 cubic kilometers of the unrefined sewage. With this, sewage in rivers pour out 12 million tons of the toxic substance. On 20 May in Moscow starts  the meeting of the Helsinki Commission, or HELCOM, which works to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution through intergovernmental co-operation between Denmark, Estonia, the European Community, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, RussiaSweden.  EPA/SERGEI ILNITSKY
