epa02127439 Syrian President Bashar Assad (C) speaks with technicians at the inauguration of the Ebla gas plant in Homs province, 162 kilometers (101 miles) northwest of Damascus, Syria on 22 April 2010 with an output capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters a day of clean gas. The project is a joint venture between Petro-Canada, a subsidiary of Suncor Energy Inc,Syria's state-run General Petroleum Corp. Gas will be produced from Ash-Shaer field, one of two fields that the company is developing. The Ash-ShaerCheriffe cover an area of 300,000 acres in central Syria.
