Thaıland Buffalo Flesh Feast

epa02174948 A Thai spiritual devotee drinks home-made whiskey with freshly killed raw buffalo flesh during the Pu Sae Ya Sae festival in Chiang Mai province , northern Thailand , 27 May 2010 . The festival takes place annually in the foothills of Doi Kham mountain , to pay homage to two ancient giant spirits , Pu SaeYa Sae . Legend has it that among the Lua People living around Doi Kham lived also the two giants who were cannibals . The Buddha came to Doi Khampersuaded them to reform their ways . and before leaving gave a hair relic to Pu SaeYa Saeinstructed them to pay homage every day . This is remembered in a ceremony which involes a ' medium ' , who is believed to be possessed by spiritsthus eats raw buffalo meatdrinks buffalo blood in homage to the spirits .  EPA/PONGMANAT TASIRI   .
