epa02174579 Archbishop Jose Gomez is welcomed by parishoners after the welcoming mass at the downtown Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles, on 26 May 2010. Gomez will work alongside Cardinal Roger Mahony, then succeed him when the prelate retires early nin 2011.
